Containment Priest hasn't had a big price tag in quite a long time, but I imagine that foils of this version will continue to cost a pretty penny.įlickerwisp is one of my favorite cards to play off of an Aether Vial, and I think the Timeshifted version looks super classy. I have always been a fan of playing Containment Priest in the sideboard of both Legacy Death and Taxes and Legacy Goblins (when I was splashing white for mainboard Thalia, Guardian of Thraben) and I think this art looks super rad in the Timeshifted style. If you've read any of my articles before, you've probably realized that I'm a huge Death and Taxes fan, so naturally, I'm pretty pumped to be getting some awesome Taxes pieces in Timeshifted style. I'm going to break it down in WUBRG order, picking out the cards I'm most stoked on or that I think will make the biggest splash in the finance scene, and I'll be adding to my picks up until the set is officially released - so be sure to keep checking out! White These spoilers came out so fast that we decided that instead of my normal spoiler article, this time I'm going to do a highlight article instead and talk about the cards from this set I'm most hyped for. The set will include 289 cards from the Time Spiral block sets and will be sold only as Draft Booster packs and boxes. Every pack from the set will include a timeshifted card featuring a modern card on a pre-Modern card frame. ![]() It is going to be a draft experience comprised of favorites from the three sets that made up Time Spiral block: Time Spiral, Planar Chaos, and Future Sight. There is little doubt that Wizards will repeat this positive example in the future, with other draft sets tailored for Magic's most experienced players that don't simultaneous ruin the fun for everyone else.Time Spiral Remastered, Magic's first remastered set to appear in paper, is scheduled to be released on March 19th, 2021. The concept of nostalgia and time-based gameplay is a rather exclusive club by design, and that works best for the entire Magic community. Meanwhile, veterans can approach it on their own terms and play with it alongside other enfranchised players, which was the intent of all Time Spiral products to begin with. New players won't stumble upon it or be forced into playing it in Standard in fact, rookies can simply ignore Time Spiral Remastered if they so choose. Instead, Time Spiral Remastered is draft-only, just like the myriad Masters sets, and players can seek it out as they please. Kaldheim, Throne of Eldraine, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths and others are suitable for all players, and thus, Standard functions the way it's meant to without Time Spiral Remastered interfering with that balance. This preserves Standard as a neutral ground between experienced and rookie players, with regular expansion sets making up the format. Time Spiral Remastered will not enter the Standard format, just the way sets such as Ultimate Masters and Conspiracy: Take the Crown don't enter Standard (or Historic, for that matter). ![]() Standard is supposed to be a common ground between experienced and rookie players, but with Time Spiral around, Standard was skewed toward the veteran crowd. ![]() The main problem, though, was that Time Spiral was a Standard-legal product, and thus took up nearly half of Standard for two years until it was finally rotated out when the Shards of Alara block came in. What's more, this block's mechanics and keywords were complex and diverse, from morph and echo to suspend and flanking, and novice players could quickly get overwhelmed. Time Spiral's booster packs included many reprinted cards from the game's earlier days to appeal to veteran players, but this was totally wasted on novices who had no such references. The theme of this block was time itself, and this included nostalgia for previous sets. Time Spiral succeeded at what it set out to do, but the problem is that not every player could appreciate it at the time. In fact, it was a blast for experienced players, and many powerhouse cards for Modern, Legacy, and Commander came from this block. The original Time Spiral block was not poorly designed or boring to play with.
